This weekend Will and I brought our friend Demetrius along on our coffee shop adventure. We journeyed over the Ohio River to New Albany, IN where we tried out KöLKIN Coffee. We enjoyed our time at KöLKIN, but we wouldn't say it was one of our favorites. As usual, I will write about each aspect of the shop and our individual scores and then our overall scores at the end.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere at KöLKIN was different than other shops that we had been to. We found the music to be really quiet, which is good if you want to listen to other music, but made for an awkwardly quiet atmosphere without headphones. The art was pretty cool, although there wasn't a very common theme. There was a wall of old records, a wall with burlap coffee sacks, and lots of kayaks and pottery scattered throughout the shop. The lighting was alright, there were a few lamps around the shop and some normal ceiling lighting. The wifi worked very well for us, so it seems to be a reliable place for someone to use their computer. The decorations at KöLKIN did not follow a consistent theme but were neat, none the less. It mostly felt like a mountain lodge, with lots of wood and an old timey stove with a couch and chairs around it. There were only about 5 people there, so it was very quiet and could be a good place to study. The seating wasn't very special, they had lots of basic tables and chairs and then a small seating area with a couch, coffee table, and two more comfortable chairs. The location was also not our favorite. It was in a shopping strip and didn't offer very much character. KöLKIN was a very clean shop with some neat features, but it was not our favorite.

Coffee: Unlike the atmosphere at KöLKIN, the coffee was amazing! KöLKIN serves Sunergos coffee, which is one of my favorites. I had a Pumpkin Spice Latte (it's fall so I had to), Will had the Ethiopian blend and drank it black, and Demetrius had an Iced Mocha. We all loved our drinks. Seriously, Demetrius and I both say it's the best we've ever had of the specific drinks we got. Will liked his a lot too, but he wasn't as impressed because they didn't have their own coffee. Their drinks were also pretty reasonably priced. KöLKIN also sales a few different smoothies, teas, and coffee drinks. You can find their menu on their website.

Food: KöLKIN didn't really have many food options. We didn't get anything, but saw some bagels, cookies, and muffins.
Katie: 2/10
Will: 4/10
Demetrius: 4/10
Wow Factor: The thing we liked most about KöLKIN (other than Demetrius' and my lattes) was the name of the shop. We loved the thoughtfulness and originality behind it. We included a picture of the meaning so that y'all can read it too! We also liked the kayaks throughout the shop used as decorations. They were pretty neat and added a fun element.
Katie: 8/15
Will: 9/15
Demetrius: 8/15
Parking: KöLKIN is located in a shopping strip so there was a parking lot with several spots.
Katie: 5/5
Will: 5/5
Demetrius: 5/5
Overall: The three of us are glad we tried out KöLKIN, but we don't plan on going back. Although the lattes were awesome, it's a pretty far drive for a place we don't particularly want to spend hours hanging out or studying in.
Katie: 76/100
Will: 72/100
Demetrius: 77/100
